The visibility problem

Every reporting cycle, the same thing happened. Staff spent the better part of three days pulling data from disconnected systems, assembling it by hand, reconciling what didn’t match, and producing a consolidated portfolio report that was already partially out of date by the time it reached leadership. One bad source file could silently corrupt the whole thing. Nobody would know until the numbers didn’t add up.

Leadership was making decisions about total exposure, premium concentration, and loss ratios by line on information that was days old and manually assembled.

That’s not a reporting problem. That’s a visibility problem.

The build

The underlying data existed — it was spread across the organization’s policy and financial systems. The issue was that nobody had built a unified structure on top of it.

A single financial data model normalized inconsistencies across source systems, applied consistent definitions across all lines, and replaced the manual assembly process with automated pipelines that flagged anomalies rather than passing them through silently. The three-day cycle was a symptom of fragmentation. The fix was integration, not more process.

The executive dashboard was designed for finance leadership, not analysts — portfolio KPIs at the top, supporting detail accessible without leaving the room. The design principle: every question a leader might be asked in a board meeting should be answerable from the dashboard in under thirty seconds.

What changed

The three-day cycle was gone. The team’s time shifted from assembly to analysis. Leadership had a live view of the portfolio — exposure, concentration, loss ratios — that they hadn’t had before and could act on in real time.
